The purpose of this report is to review recent trends in Canadian e-commerce in the context of the new economy.  To this end, the first section provides a review of recent themes in the economic, business and sociological literature.  This section leads to an assessment of the Canadian e-commerce based on data supplied to the CSCA by Statistics Canada.  This unique data source, is to our knowledge, the most comprehensive source of statistically representative information about e-commerce anywhere in the world.  For this reason, unlike most studies of e-commerce, the current paper is based on sound empirical foundations. The final section focuses on wireless technologies for accessing the Internet and e-commerce.  Many researchers and investors argue that wireless Internet will provide the next breakthrough in the unfolding story of e-commerce development.
