The CSCA Research Insight provides an overview of the character of importing and exporting activities in Canada and the impact that trade has on the flow of goods through key gateways. The study highlights that retail is essentially a process of distribution, with retailers forming an increasingly integrated part of the journey of goods from foreign and domestic manufacturers to the end-consumer. Major retailers in Canada now not only operate large networks of stores and associated digital infrastructure, but also have invested in their own distribution facilities to drive scale economies.
